Three weeks to go, 24 days according to (www.lvmarathon.com). All I can say is - finally. I begin tapering on the 17th, have been looking forward to putting an end to the doubles and the 20 + long runs. I have a final 20+ day on Saturday and that will be it until 12.7.
On October 19th I ran a PR in the Portland Run Like Hell half marathon wearing the Pearl Izumi Streak. The Streak is a light flat, great shoe! I buy these great shoes from the greatest online retailer, Running Warehouse (www.runningwarehouse.com). These folks have the best prices with free 2 day shipping. Check them out if you need a new pair of kicks. After a couple of light weeks (40 – 45 miles) I got back into the rhythm and have gotten 190 + miles since 10.27. I ran a comfortable 22.5 miles in 2:26 last Saturday at a nice comfortable 6:38 mile pace. I felt really good. I am hoping for another good 20+ this Saturday, hopefully this Saturday will be dry.
When I started this madness the goal was to qualify for the Boston Marathon (3:15 time for my age group) but with the effort that I have put in these last few months I am going for a sub 3 hour/sub 2:50 if all goes well. Since the 1:21:12 half in Portland (2nd half was involved a climb from mile 6.5 to mile 9.5) I keep the 2:50 in the back of my mind and have actually started thinking about 2:46 – 2:48, am I dreaming… perhaps, but I would rather set a high goal and miss it than set something too low and reach it, but that is just me. We’ll see… three more weeks.
